RDG is an entirely family owned and staffed business
dedicated to the hand making of high-quality jewelry and art pieces.
All design and manufacturing is undertaken at the Takapuna beach side
workshop in New Zealand. They are the only Select Retailer for gems by John Dyer & Co. in New Zealand.
Ken worked in London's Bond St. with Chaumet and also for the
world's oldest established diamond merchants in Antwerp, Belgium before
founding his own company, Robinson
Designer Goldsmith (RDG), 25 years ago. Originally operating as
a diamond importing company, after about 5 years RDG
expanded into jewelry manufacturing.
RDG does all its design work by hand, drawn pencil and
watercolor. They are very proud to keep this centuries old technique alive in today's
CAD/cast age.
In recent years the creative input of Ken's twin sons, Michael
& David, have propelled RDG into the spotlight, winning four New
Zealand Jewellery Awards and developing an international following.
Upon invitation, RDG showed to select private celebrity guests at the
Pre Oscars last year at The Beverly Hills Hotel and also a Secret Room
Pre MTV Movie Award event, as well as a Trunk Show at the Malibu
Country Mart.
RDG's Facebook page is a favorite with over 3,000 followers worldwide,
showing RDG's new jewelry pieces as they evolve step-by-step through
the creative and technical processes. There are also informative video
links to "the making of" available for viewing online. (See a video at the bottom of this page.)
RDG is a member of The Jewelers & Watchmakers of New
Zealand Inc., and Ken & Michael have completed studies with the GIA
in California. David has studied with The Gemological Association of
Australia.
Their workshop is equipped with modern Meiji Microscope systems
and GRS hand tools, they are very anti CAD Design and Cast manufacture.
They strongly believe that jewelery is a luxury product that is enhanced
by using century old techniques of designing jewelry by hand with
watercolor on paper and then hand forging pieces with the skill of an
artist's hand. True craftsmanship in making a beautiful and unique
piece of jewelry is a basic foundation of RDG. (See video below.)
