Depth Measurement

We take the depth measurement from the girdle to the culet and do not include the crown depth. A gemstone's crown height varies significantly depending on the cutting style (see images below). We measure depth from girdle to culet because this dimension is typically the most important one for determining whether the gem will fit in a particular setting. This dimension is also important to know when designing around a specific gemstone. In contrast, the crown height does not affect the gemstone's useability as much.
